A lot of people email us before they book anything, and almost all of them ask some version of the same thing: which level of Reiki training should I actually start with? That’s a very obvious and fair question. The three stages aren’t interchangeable and jumping in at the wrong point usually means redoing work later.

This blog isn’t a repeat of what’s already on our main reiki training in Nepal page. That page covers the program itself. This one is meant to help you figure out which level fits you right now, whether in-person or online reiki training in Nepal makes more sense and what to expect before you show up.

What Makes Reiki Training in Nepal Different?

Kathmandu isn’t just a nice photo backdrop for this. The location actually changes how the practice sinks in.

Here’s what makes Reiki training suitable here:

  • Quiet surroundings: It’s hard to sit with energy work when your phone won’t stop buzzing or a neighbor’s dog is barking through the wall.
  • A teacher physically in the room: Attunements land differently when someone can correct your hand placement on the spot.
  • Other students going through it with you: Half the value comes from talking to people who felt the same thing you did after a session.
  • Fewer things pulling at your attention: Most students tell us the biggest shift wasn’t the energy itself, it was simply having nothing else competing for their focus that week.

The 3 Levels of Reiki Training at a Glance

There’s a reason this is broken into stages instead of one long course.

Go through it at a glance to understand it better and determine which one is suitable for you:

Level What It Focuses On Typical Gap Before Starting Best Suited For
First Degree Self-healing through touch None, open to complete beginners Anyone new to energy work
Second Degree Distant healing, symbols About 3 months after Level 1 Practitioners ready to heal others
Master Degree Mastery and teaching others About 9 months after Level 2 Those planning to certify future students

If somewhere offers to hand you all three certificates over one long weekend, that’s a red flag, not a shortcut. The gaps exist because your body and nervous system need real time to settle into each attunement before the next one is layered on top.

How to Know Which Level of Reiki Training You Need First?

Run through these before you book anything, as it only takes a minute:

  1. Have you ever received an attunement or initiation before, in any form? If not, you start at Level 1 as it’s beginner-friendly.
  2. Is your goal mainly self-healing, or do you want to work on other people too? The first is fully covered in Level 1; the second needs Level 2.
  3. Has it actually been three months since your First Degree course? If yes, you’re clear to move forward.
  4. Do you eventually want to teach Reiki yourself, not just practice it? That’s the Master Degree, and it’s not where beginners start.
  5. Can you realistically commit to 20 minutes of practice most days? The certificate means little if the habit doesn’t stick afterward.

In-Person or Online Reiki Training: Which Fits Your Life?

Both paths teach the same core material. The right one just depends on your situation.

In-person training works better if:

  • You want a teacher physically correcting your form as you go
  • The retreat setting itself matters to you, not just the certificate
  • You can actually clear the calendar and fly to Kathmandu

Online training works better if:

  • Travel isn’t in the cards this year but you don’t want to wait
  • You already have somewhere quiet at home to sit for attunements
  • A flexible pace matters more to you than a fixed schedule

If online is the better fit, each level is offered as its own course: First Degree Reiki (online), Second Degree Reiki (online), and Master Degree Reiki (online).

Reiki Training vs. Reiki Healing: Know the Difference

reiki training in nepal

We get this question a lot, so it’s worth spelling out clearly.

This training teaches you to channel and direct the energy yourself, through a structured course with clear levels.

A reiki healing session is different: you’re the one receiving it, and a practitioner does the actual work. No training required on your end at all.

If what you actually want is to feel the effects rather than learn the technique, our reiki healing in Nepal page is the better place to start, not a training program.

Getting Ready Before You Start Your Training

A bit of prep makes the first couple of days noticeably easier.

  • Ease off caffeine and heavy food for a few days beforehand, your system will thank you
  • Don’t schedule anything demanding right after you land or right before you leave
  • Bring a notebook. Almost everyone wants to write something down after an attunement
  • Try not to walk in with fixed expectations about what you’ll feel
  • If you’re still unsure which level applies to you, just ask before you commit to dates

Finding Your Starting Point

None of this needs to be complicated. If you’ve never had an attunement, you start at First Degree. Everything else on this page is really just detail for later. The three-level structure, the gaps in between, the choice between in-person and online: those all matter, but they matter after you’ve taken the first step, not before it.

If you’re still going back and forth on which level fits or whether Kathmandu makes sense for you right now, that’s exactly what the questions above are for. If you’re not even sure training is what you’re after, a healing session might be the better place to begin.

Either way, don’t let the decision sit for months. Email us with where you’re at, and we’ll point you to the right level and format instead of leaving you to guess.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I skip Level 1 and go straight to Level 2?

No. Level 2 builds directly on the attunement you receive during Level 1, so skipping ahead means missing the groundwork everything else depends on. Every student completes First Degree before moving to Second Degree.

How long does the full certification path take from start to finish?

Counting the required gaps between levels, most students finish all three degrees over about a year. The actual class time at each stage is only a few days; it’s the spacing in between that stretches things out. Rushing through the gaps tends to weaken the results more than speed anything up.

Is online reiki training in Nepal as effective as in-person training?

Online covers the same material, including remote attunements, and plenty of students complete it successfully. That said, some people just focus better in person with a teacher watching over their shoulder. It really comes down to your own learning style and how quiet your home setup is.

Do I need any yoga or meditation background before starting?

No, none at all. First Degree is built for complete beginners from day one. A calm headspace helps, sure, but the technique itself is taught from scratch either way.

What happens after I finish Master Degree training?

Once you complete it, you’re qualified to initiate and teach Reiki to your own students. Most graduates fold it into existing yoga or wellness work rather than treating it as a separate career. In a lot of ways, finishing Master Degree is really just the point where the teaching starts.
