Why Your Body Needs Detoxification?

You may wonder: Why yogic detoxification? Toxicity in the body can come from lifestyles, environmental pollution and habits like poor sleep, negative self-talk, too much stress, alcohol, drugs, smoking, chemicals in food, fast food, junk food, the air we breathe, the water we drink, etc.

In the modern world, we accumulate toxins everywhere. There is no doubt we live in a toxic world, so a growing awareness of the issues and a desire to embrace a healthier lifestyle are certainly beneficial.

Detoxification helps to balance out imbalances – weight, metabolism, thyroid function, immune system, hormones, stress, etc. Our digestive, nervous, and hormone systems were designed to work together to achieve optimum health.

When we overload them with toxins the kidney, heart, liver, lungs and other glandular systems become unhealthy. When they don’t work efficiently with the natural function we become sick.

When we do yoga detox retreat we reduce the input of substances or actions that produce toxins and give the body time to release the body of these toxins.  A yogic detox creates a healthy environment within the body so that the body can heal itself.

The intestines, kidneys, lungs, and liver are organs involved in the detoxification of chemicals and toxins in the body.  Yogic detoxification not only keeps these organs healthy but can also cleanse them of impurities.

The health issues may be small, not so bad, like constipation, anxiety, insomnia, acne, headaches, joint pain, and digestive discomfort, etc.  Nothing that is going to kill you, but over time small stuff becomes big stuff.

Just ask any banker about the effect of compound interest. Your body is compounding imbalances over time. When does constipation become colon cancer? When do the digestive issues become a peptic ulcer?

Yogic detox retreat maintains a better functioning of the organs by body rejuvenation. It can be termed as a master medicine for all bodily ailments. The more toxins in your body, the faster you age with a bad health condition.

Toxin overload can burden our liver, triggering Adrenal Fatigue Syndrome (AFS) and delay its recovery. In more extreme examples, toxicity contributes to arthritis, cancer, Parkinson’s, fibromyalgia, thyroid dysfunctions, allergies, asthma, and more. Also, it can affect the hormone balances.

Our body is our vehicle; it carries us through life, enabling us to perform our life’s work. We only get one vehicle. Undoubtedly our vehicle will respond over time to exposure to life’s elements and toxins, but a yogic lifestyle can help reduce exposure of toxins.

Yogic detoxification will aid in eliminating an excessive toxic load. Choose a non-congested path, keep your vehicle running clean, and it will carry you to a joyful and healthy life.

This yogic detoxification is a natural yogic process that bears lots of fruit. You’ll feel better, you’ll look better, you’ll work better, and you’ll be healthier and happier.

Main Tools Of Yogic Detoxifications In Our Yoga Detox Retreat

Nepal Yoga Home uses different Hatha yogic cleansing techniques. The main tools that we are using for detox are Shat-Karmas (the seven yogic detoxification processes) which also includes fasting and dietary consultation. Besides we also teach Asanas (Yoga Poses), Pranayama (Breathing exercise) and Dhyan (Meditation).

A very famous Hatha Yogi Gherend says that Asanas ( or postures) gives steadiness, that scientific breathing creates lightness, that meditation enables us to realize the self and that the Shat Karmas (seven yogic detoxification) purify an individual. All these techniques clean both physical and mental aspects of the body in a natural and effective way.

The Main Tools Of Yoga Detox Retreat Are Described Below:

1. Yoga postures, Pranayama (Breathing) and Meditation for Yoga Detox Retreat

Yoga postures make a very deep impact on your glandular system and organs. Good practice of yoga postures under effective guidelines can have profound detoxing effects on the internal organs and glandular system. Regular practice of yoga postures will also improve flexibility, balance, and strength in body and mind.

The practice of breathing exercises guides you to use the breath for cleansing and purification. The breath is a powerful tool to enhance inner cleansing and connectivity. The pranayama (Breathing exercises) of Yoga helps in the regulation of the breath and removes toxins from the respiratory, digestive and nervous system.

Pranayama boosts the immune system, repairs the cells and makes up for the losses in energy levels of the body. Purification of the intestines, blood, and nerves does wonders for the overall health of the individual. The most obvious toxin eliminated by the body during exhalation is carbon dioxide.

Breathing practice in yoga draws in more energy through oxygen during inhalations, while effectively eliminating more carbon dioxide (CO2) during deep exhalations. Breathing techniques can help to open the lungs and loosen and eliminate phlegm and mucus, cleansing the lungs and expel these by-products.

We believe in integrated detox of the body, not only physically, but also mentally and spiritually. Meditation is key to remove your mental and spiritual toxins. Great detoxification will happen naturally when you start meditating because stress is the main cause of toxic which can produce many kinds of toxins and hormonal imbalances.

Sat-karma techniques (the seven kinds of yogic detox) can heal the body, but more importantly, the meditation detoxifies the mind. You can’t fully cleanse your mental body if your mind holds anger, fears, worries, stress, hatred, jealousy, ego, greed, and so forth. Meditation helps to detach yourself from these impurities of mind so you can start your great journey of detoxification.

2. Fasting For Yoga Detox Retreat

‘Eat, Fast and Live Longer’ is a highly recommended slogan. Fasting is the world’s most ancient and natural healing practice. In fasting the body utilizes non-essential tissue (e.g., fat, digestive enzymes, muscle fibers, and glycolytic enzymes etc) for fuel.

In naturopathic treatment, fasting is regarded as a rapid method of eliminating wastes and enhancing the healing processes of the body. Fasting is thought to aid the release of fat-soluble toxins from the body. Fasting for a few days can regenerate the entire immune system.

New research suggests starving the body kick-starts stem cells, forcing them to create new white blood cells which fight infections. If you want to lose weight, increase energy levels, look and feel healthier, fasting is the simplest and best process.

Fasting is one of the most potent tools available for assisting the body in healing itself. Fasting provides an opportunity for the organisms to reboot both physically and mentally. Fasting triggers a truly wondrous cleansing process that reaches right down to each and every cell and tissue in the body.

The great ancient personalities like Plato, Socrates, Aristotle, Leonardo Da Vinci, and Pythagoras practiced fasting. As a result of fasting, scientific research has proved that brain power grows and you become more intelligent.

Only three days of water fasting reboots your immune system by activating the stem cells and enables you to perform at the optimum level. All organs and glands get a much-needed and well-deserved rest, during which their tissues are purified and rejuvenated and their functions balanced and regulated.

The entire alimentary canal is swept clean. By rebuilding immunity, health is naturally restored and diseases disappear. There are many physical, mental and spiritual benefits of fasting;

Some Benefits Of Fasting Are:

  • A chance to rest, cleanse and repair the body
  • Removal of toxins from the body
  • Bodily lightness and freshness
  • Mental calm- and quietness
  • The body becomes fit
  • The digestive functions improve
  • Increased energy levels
  • Improved skin quality
  • Deposited fat and mucous is removed
  • The intestinal functions are restored
  • Helps to develop immunity by eliminating the toxins.

Types Of Fasting That We Are Using For This Yoga Detox Retreat:

1. Water Fasting

Water fasting is when you consume only water for an extended period of time. Water fasting offers the quickest detox and strongest therapeutic benefit for a healthy body. This is the most powerful form of fasting. Careful preparation the days before a water fast is essential.

This makes the fasting more comfortable and the experience much more enjoyable. True water fast follows a zero caloric intake. This means water only, nothing added to it. It is true that water fasting is the most intense path to detoxification and health benefits. This fasting should take place under the supervision of a qualified fasting expert.

2.  Juice Fasting

In Juice fasting a participant only drink fruit or vegetable juices for a certain period of time and don’t eat any solid foods. No solid foods are eaten for a specified period of time, which can be one day to one week. A juice fast provides concentrated nutrients that are easily and immediately digested by the body.

It’s much easier to sustain a long juice fast as it provides instant energy to the body. To optimize the benefits of a juice fast it’s best to choose vegetables and fruits that have the most powerful cleansing abilities.

These include cabbage, dandelion greens, sprouts, celery, carrots, lemons, apples and all easily digestible fruit and vegetables. Juice fasting is easier than water fasting because drinking juice will provide you with some calories as well as an enormous amount of vitamins and minerals.

If you are going to do a “Juice Fast” I recommend natural and fresh juices. Stay away from bottled juices from grocery stores because they typically contain artificial flavors, preservatives, and other unhealthy additives which defeat the whole purpose of doing fasting.

3. Fruit fasting

A fresh fruit detox can be a great way to give the immune system a nutritional boost, as well as give the digestive system a much needed break. Spend three days eating fruit, salad and you’ll cleanse your system, kick food addictions, and detoxify your body.

For fruit fasting choose a fruit of the season which has good quality of detox, like apple, orange, pomegranate etc. Fruit fasting allows you to take in an amount of fresh fruit which is easily digestible, to put less stress on the stomach.

If you are looking to rid the body of built up toxins and likely lose a few pounds while you’re at it, fruit fasting is a great option. Fruit fasting is also good for different health problems like digestive problems, obesity, muscular or joint pain, tiredness, headaches, diarrhea, stress, over thinking, cough, and body odor.

4. Mono Fasting

A “Mono Fast” is where you consume only one type of fruit or vegetable for a certain period of time.  Although you still eat food while doing a “Mono Fast” you are still giving your digestive system a huge break by eating simple and avoiding any complicated food combinations.

A “Mono Meal” is when you eat only one type of food and you don’t do any kind of food combining. In mono fasting you can choose only one food like cabbage, pumpkin, watermelon, apple, mango, orange, banana etc.

If you are mono fasting you can choose to eat an apple for breakfast, and only eat apples during this meal and then choose cabbage for lunch, and only eat cabbage for lunch. But if you want to practice original mono fasting you need to stick to the same fruit or vegetable the whole day.

Who Should Not Fast?

Fasting has a lot of benefits but in some cases, we cannot do fasting detoxification. Pregnant or nursing women, children under eighteen years of age and individuals with heart diseases, malnourished, insulin-dependent type I diabetics.

Those with laboratory tests revealing significant liver (eg. cirrhosis) or kidney failure, alcoholics (advanced stage), and those with advanced thyroid malfunctions state should refrain from fasting.

In summary, we can say that more energy comes from a purified body, and fasting of all types contribute to health maintenance, mental clarity, and spiritual cleansing. It eases the daily burden of bodily processes, allowing rest and cellular healing to occur.

Graceful aging and reclaiming robust health in a toxic, contaminated world is possible when we give the body proper nourishment and adequate opportunities to rest and purify by fasting.
