It is also a gland as it secretes bile, a type of liquid which goes to small intestines as well as the pancreas. They work upon the food in the small intestines.  It does some crucial function for digestion and conversion of the products into the different form such as glucose into glycogen.

Even the liver functions to change the glycogen into glucose if the body needs it. In spite of its regular secretion by the liver, the bile is needed only when the process of digestion occurs. In the condition of not necessary of bile, it is stored in the gall-bladder. The bile starts to enter to the bowel from the liver as soon as the food enters the alimentary canal. For the sake of animal foods, the amount of bile is needed more in comparison to the vegetarian food. When we’ve not taken any food and feeling hungry, the gall-bladder remains full. No sooner do we take food, the process of digestion starts resulting in empty of the gallbladder.

Most importantly, it detoxifies numerous hazardous chemicals.

However, it also gets damaged and dented during the process of preservation. The time period of damage of the liver depends on the amount of glycogen in the liver. If it is in ample amount, it doesn’t get impaired soon.
